विपदि धैर्यमथाभ्युदये क्षमा, सदसि वाक्पटुता युधि विक्रमः ।
यशसि चाभिरुचिर्व्यसनं श्रुतौ,प्रकृतिसिद्धमिदं हि महात्मनाम् ।।

vipadi dhairyamathābhyudaye kṣamā, sadasi vākpaṭutā yudhi vikramaḥ ।
yaśasi cābhirucirvyasanaṃ śrutau,prakṛtisiddhamidaṃ hi mahātmanām ।।

courageous during adversity,
forbearing concerning success,
master of the art of rhetoric,
valorous in war, desirous to acquire stature,
and assiduously devoted to scripture;
these are the characteristics of the great!

विपत्ति में धीरज, अपनी वृद्धि में क्षमा, सभा में वाणी की चतुराई, युद्ध में पराक्रम, यश में इच्छा, शास्त्र में व्यसन – ये छः गुण महात्मा लोगों में स्वभाव से ही सिद्ध होते हैं ।
